Great story. I once got asked about Jukes’s famous “one man’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter” remark by a doctor administering several inoculations I had to take as a maybe embed in the not-yet war from the 9/11 attack … When I get into these kinds of discussions, about getting things wrong and AHA that must mean you can’t be trusted, I always say the difference between us and everyone else is that we aspire to be correct. It is part of the ethic you describe. It’s not just a matter of fixing your mistakes, but always trying not to make them, because accuracy matters, by (ahem) not reporting things you don’t trust. So your massage therapist had a point, but it was backwards.
